Greeting

Thank you for visiting this blog.

My name is Tomoda, a representative of Blue Technology.

For many years, we have been engaged in material research and new product development at companies. Recently, I retired from the company, and based on my experience, I established Blue Technology with the aim of contributing to the world more proactively and directly.

First of all, I would like to introduce myself as a greeting.

(What is your educational background? What have you studied?)

March 1981  Graduated from Numazu National College of Technology

March 1985 Completed master's course at the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Shizuoka University

June 1993 (Doctor of Engineering), Graduate School of Electronic Science, Shizuoka University

When I think about it, I graduated from junior high school, entered a technical college, and studied chemistry all the time. At the time I was called the Department of Industrial Chemistry. So, it’s been 17 years until I got a PhD (engineering)! .. Long! ..
I think I did it well without getting tired.

Although my specialty in graduate school and doctorate is organic chemistry, my current field of specialty is general functional materials regardless of whether they are organic or inorganic, considering my subsequent experience.

(What is your work history? What did you do?)

1985 -1995 , Chief of Basic Laboratory, Major Musical Instrument Maker

1995 -1996  Full-time lecturer, National University

1996 -2020  Automotive Parts Manufacturer Chief Engineer, New Product Project Leader, Next Generation Business Development Office

2020 -President of Blue Technology

If you write it like a resume or work resume, it is a light work history as above.

After graduating from graduate school, I joined a world-class musical instrument maker and did basic research (organic chemistry, organic synthesis). I don't think it was a musical instrument maker's work, but at the time there was a basic research boom and business diversification was over. Also, the bubble economy has become a legend! Because it was.

I worked here for about 10 years.

After that, for a year, I worked as a lecturer at a national university and moved to an automobile parts manufacturer. Therefore, I was engaged in basic research again, and based on the research results, I was able to develop and market a new product (exhaust gas purification catalyst) and further expand it.

It was really good (sweat).

(What is your specialty as a researcher/engineer?)

· Chemistry
・Material science, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, material analysis
・Functional materials, environmental science, catalysts
・New product development
・Technology development strategy, business strategy

After all, the base is chemistry that I have studied for a long time.

There are organic and inorganic in chemistry, but since I was involved in catalyst work at the company, both organic and inorganic eventually became specialized fields. I also have experience in business development as a company such as new product development and strategy, and I think this is also a specialty field.

(More concretely what the person did)

Let me explain more specifically what you have done.

・Chemical technology as a backbone

I studied organic chemistry and organic reaction chemistry at university and graduate school. I think that I learned the acquisition of knowledge and the way of thinking about research here. For the time being, I was setting up a research theme, but at that time I did not know what this would be useful for. However, if you think about it now, I think it was a very important time to learn the basics of chemistry.

・Work for the world

Utilizing that knowledge, I was engaged in synthesizing recording materials for compact discs at a company. The aim was to develop new materials that are sensitive to light. In short, when irradiated with light of a certain wavelength, the material reacts and the structure changes so that it absorbs in different wavelength ranges. Then, when the material is irradiated with light corresponding to the absorption wavelength of the material, it returns to its original structure. By applying this to a disc, it becomes a rewritable CD (compact disc) with laser light.

The outline of the research theme is as follows.

It was a really interesting study.

Although I am an amateur, I enjoyed the visual phenomenon in which the color changes when exposed to light. Now I have my degree. It was regrettable that we could not commercialize it, but since I was in charge of synthesizing a new organic material, I thoroughly tampered with the molecular structure. It may be said that it is almost a molecular play, but thanks to that, it has become possible to understand organic materials including plastics and polymers from their molecular structures.

I was able to acquire important basic academic ability through applied research.

So next is new product development. It means that a company that has the process of making paper will use that technology to make a completely new product. So I tried connecting the paper and the catalyst. The catalyst, also called cata, is installed in the muffler to purify engine exhaust gas. Is it possible to put paper in such a high temperature and not burn? However, even if it is said that paper is a papermaking process, the raw material itself is not pulp but ceramic fiber with high heat resistance. So it won't burn.

So, the outline is like this.
It has already been commercialized and is still in production as of 2020.

This is also the result of joint research with Kyushu University and contract development by JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency).

A catalyst that cleans the exhaust gas released to the atmosphere.
Good for the environment, good for the world, good for people.

I have done this mainly as a researcher and an engineer.

Also, technical strategy, business strategy, etc.

This may be the most complicated.
